Understanding Your Placement Scores

To access your scores, log on to WebAdvisor and go to the Students section. Click on Test Summary to view your scores.

Below is a guide to understanding your placement scores.

  1. Locate your SAT Writing score
  2. Locate your Nelson-Denny score
  3. Locate your Grammar score

All students are required to take an English course (starting with: ENG 7, ENG 1A, or ENG 5H) until the Written Communication general studies requirement is fulfilled.

Students who have earned a 4 or 5 on the English Composition AP exam will receive 6 units of general studies credit, fulfillment of the Written Communication requirement, and should not take a Freshman English course.

Spanish, French & Japanese Placement Exams

These exams are scored by the Modern Languages Department.  Once we receive your results, we will post them to your record.  We hope to have your results available by Orientation. 

All Foreign Language Exam results are noted as follows:

0 Spanish 1, French 1, Japanese 1
50 Spanish 2, French 2, Japanese 2
75

A score of 75 denotes fulfillment of the Foreign Language GE

requirement.  Students wishing to continue with course work in a

language, should take the following course(s):  Spanish 3, French 3

100

A score of 100 denotes a fulfillment of the Foreign Language GE

requirement.  Students wishing to continue with course work in a

language, should begin with Spanish 4, and/or the Modern Languages &

Cultures Department designated course.
