Tenure Track Faculty Member – Biological Sciences  

The Biology Department at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles is seeking a full time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biology with environmental science emphasis beginning August 2014. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach a variety courses and laboratories to both majors and non-majors in biology department, and develop a productive research program and scholarship involving undergraduate students. Teaching responsibilities include – but are not limited to – general biology, microbiology, environmental science, ecology, etc.  In addition, the faculty member will help biology department and college to develop a multidisciplinary environmental science major. Candidates with a specialization in any area of environmental science will be considered. All faculty members are also expected to advise students and serve in various committees.

Mount St. Mary’s College is a Catholic Liberal Arts college primarily for women. Founded in 1929 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in the Catholic intellectual tradition; the Mount is an institution dedicated to providing an excellent education directed towards service. The College’s various graduate and undergraduate programs are located on two campuses; Doheny, in downtown Los Angeles and Chalon, in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles. The College prides itself on maintaining a highly diverse student body, small classes and a close working relationship between students and faculty.

Qualifications:

A Ph.D.  degree in biology, environmental sciences, or a related field is required. Prior experience in teaching at the undergraduate level, as well as research expertise in environmental science, are desirable.  Qualified candidates should have a strong ability to work effectively with diverse students and colleagues. Multidisciplinary training in various science fields, including environmental science, is preferred. An ideal candidate will enrich interdisciplinary offerings on campus through course offerings, an active research program and academic advising.
