After receiving his Ph.D. in Religious Studies, Fr. Garcia worked in education and pastoral ministry and held various leadership positions in Europe, Africa and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He is a systematic-historical theologian whose dissertation focused on 19th Century Belgian Church History, Politics and Education. His current fields of interest are Church History, Christology and Pneumatology, Pastoral Theology, Hispanic Pastoral Ministry and Contemporary Theologies and Theologians.

Fr. Garcia is also a member of the Theological Commission of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles and a member of the Board of Directors of St. John's Seminary in Camarillo.
