Courtney Spikes earned her B.A. in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Later she pursued her Ph.D. in French history at the University of California, Los Angeles. During which time Courtney attended graduate school in Paris at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales. After returning to UCLA, she received the Chateaubriand fellowship which allowed her to return to France to continue pursuing her doctoral research. Her work on political cultural in post-revolutionary France has been presented at the annual conferences of the Society for French Historical Studies and the Western Society of French History. Before attending graduate school, Courtney served as a Program Director for an AmeriCorps literacy-tutoring grant in Los Angeles for many years and also facilitated volunteer opportunities for fellow alums in the city.
