Susan D'Antuono graduated from the University of Washington School of Nursing with a BSN in 1982 and from California State University, Los Angeles in 1998 with a MS in Nursing and certification as Clinical Nurse Specialist. Her thesis was related to community case management with COPD patients. She currently practices as the Adult Medical Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist.
D'Antuono has worked at Huntington Memorial Hospital for 31 years. Her specialty and passion is Adult Medical Surgical, with a focus on respiratory disease. She practiced as a clinical case manager for respiratory patients for 5 years. In this role, Susan coordinated the care in the home and hospital for a caseload of high-risk respiratory patients. She has been precepting graduate CNS students for over 12 years.
Her current practice incorporates the patient, nurse, and system spheres of influence in managing house-wide project related to medication reconciliation, fall prevention, magnet recognition, and disease specific certification for joint replacement. She practices in regulatory compliance, policy and procedure development/review and staff education. D'Antuono is a member or chair of several nursing counsels.
D'Antuono has completed two studies: temperature management and injury prevention using fall mats; and participated as Co-PI with the Improvement Science Research Network (ISRN) for two , multi-site studies: Small Problems Adaptive Responses (STAR-2) and Impact of Cognitive Load, Interruptions, and Distractions on Procedure Failures and Medication Administration (Medication Errors). She was a voting member of the Institutional Review Board for over 5 years.
She has been a member of the Altadena Guild of Huntington Hosptial for 22 years , a sports enthusiast and enjoys traveling, gardening, and shopping!
