Arcoiris Records, Inc. P.O. Box 7428 Recordings of Latin American children's music in Spanish and English by Jose-Luis Orozco are available from Arcoiris. Dept. AS-01, Box 40 The Asia Society distributes books and videos about Asian history and culture. This is an excellent source for primary documents on Asia. The materials are appropriate for a high school audience; however, the Society has produced two video series for elementary and middle school students that cover contemporary life as seen through the eyes of Japanese school children. Bellerophon carries a line of coloring books with black line reproductions of illustrations on a wide range of subjects. More like illustrated text books than coloring books, background information is included for each illustration. Book titles range from "The Story of Mexico" to "Myths and Legends of the Indians of the Southwest." 149 Ninth Street California Newsreel distributes videos for high school audiences that address the African American experience in American history and culture. Videos are available for purchase or for rental and may be previewed at no charge. Crizmac The major strength of this catalogue is the extensive collection of posters, prints and art units representing the arts and crafts of many cultures around the world. All materials come with extensive background information and teaching suggestions. Direct Cinema Limited Many difficult to find titles are included in the Direct Cinema 31 East 2nd Street This unusual publisher specializes in inexpensive paperback books that cover an amazing array of topics in formats from coloring books to opera librettos. Some books have black and white line illustrations; others have full color illustrations. Where else can you find "The Codex Nuttal" from Mexico in full color for only $13? Arhoolie distributes recordings of folk music, specifically Blues, Cajun, Tejano, Zydeco, Country and Jazz. Their collection is comprehensive and includes works by all the major artists from the 1920s on. They also have a collection of regional world music and a few excellent videos of specific music traditions such as "Chulas Fronteras," an introduction to the Nortena music of the Texas-Mexican border. Literature and social studies selections are included. This is primarily a resource for books, but some software items are included. A rich collection of music and information about music for young audiences. The multicultural selections include artists such as Sweet Honey and the Rock and Taj Mahal. 85803 Lorone Highway Many award winning films addressing issues of diversity are available through this distributor, but they tend to be in the $200 to $300 range. The films are appropriate for a high school audience. Pacific Islanders in Communications 1221 Kapiolani Blvd. #6A-4 This nonprofit media arts organization was established primarily for the purpose of increasing national public broadcast programming by and about indigenous Pacific Islanders. The films included in their catalogue foster a deeper understanding of the values inherent in Pacific Island cultures. Many have won prestigious film awards. Box 802 Entirely devoted to social studies materials, this vendor has a comprehensive collection of books, videos, visual aids and software for K-12 classrooms. The collection includes a rich array of materials for multicultural studies. 1660 Hilhurst Ave. Tatak Pilipino is a Pilipino heritage store in Los Angeles that also offers a comprehensive catalogue of Pilipino music. Selections include everything from ballads and regional music to karaoke and Pilipino jazz. University of California Extension: 2000 Center St., Fourth Floor This collection of award winning films includes many multicultural titles. One catalogue is devoted entirely to world cultures and contains an extensive collection of films on Latin America and Hispanic Americans.
