'American Teacher' Documentary Screening
Rose Hills Auditorium - Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Co-Director of American Teacher
American Teacher
MSMC’s Education Department hosted a community screening of the powerful new documentary American Teacher (2011), inspired by the New York Times best-selling book Teachers Have it Easy: The Big Sacrifices and Small Salaries of America’s Teachers (2006). The film follows the lives of four American teachers struggling to survive and thrive in their demanding careers as educators, and prompts viewers to question how the work of teachers is perceived and valued in America. After the screening, attendees participated in a Q&A session with co-director Brian McGinn, and were invited to take action in their own communities by spreading the word about the film, getting in touch with their local school board, contacting legislators about teacher compensation reforms, or hosting their own screening. This screening was made possible through the generous support of MSMC’s Film and Social Justice Department.
