Dr. Ana Thorne has been named Acting Program Director of the MFA in Creative Writing. Dr. Thorne, as many of you know, has a long history with Mount St. Mary’s College and with the Humanities Program. She earned her B.A. degree from Weekend College and her M.A. in Humanities here at the Mount; then she went on to pursue her MFA in Creative Writing at Antioch and her PhD at Claremont University.
Dr. Thorne possesses a wealth of knowledge and life experience. Her areas of academic preparation include English, History, Cultural Studies, and Creative Writing. She is an expert on minority women’s literature and African American history and culture and has considerable experience in grant writing as well as creative writing. Maybe best of all, she also has first-hand understanding of what it means to be an “adult learner,” having herself returned later in life to realize her dreams for a college education and an advanced degree. Her unique background, her love of learning, her fine intellect, and her special connection to non-traditional learners make her a perfect match for the Creative Writing Program as well as the Humanities.
Please join me in congratulating and welcoming Dr. Thorne.
