Los Angeles / Oct. 29, 2012 — Mount St. Mary’s College will give away a mountain of candy to thousands of local children and their families at the College’s 23rd annual Halloween Haunted Campus on Wednesday, Oct. 31. Mount St. Mary’s hosts the festive community event to provide families living in and around the downtown area with a safe venue to trick-or-treat. Last year, more than 14,000 people visited the College’s downtown campus.
Mount St. Mary’s students and staff have transformed the College’s historic Doheny Campus. Cobwebs cover trees, bushes and the facades of buildings. Scarecrows and giant pumpkins line Chester Place, the College’s main thoroughfare. Tombstones and inflatable Halloween characters dot the front lawn of the Mount’s historic Doheny Mansion.
The growing mound of candy awaiting trick-or-treaters has been donated by Mount faculty, staff, students, community partners, and local residents and businesses. Last year, more than 20,000 pounds of candy were donated. In addition to the treats, there will also be costume and dance contests, as well as a haunted maze. The Los Angeles Police Department will provide security at the event to ensure a safe Halloween.
