WHY CERTIFY?
Thank you for your interest in starting an officially recognized student club or organization at Mount St. Mary’s College, Doheny Campus! The Associated Student Body and the Clubs & Organizations are integral to the leadership development of our A.A. students at the Doheny Campus and as a result are administered by Women’s Leadership.
We ask student clubs and organizations to officially certify for a number of reasons. First of all, the process is important to the growth and development of our student leadership. We understand that developing a constitution, soliciting membership, acquiring the guidance of a dedicated advisor/mentor, and crafting a year-long programming plan are formative and instrumental in forging a lasting relationship between student leaders, their peers, and the College.
Secondly, the staff of Women’s Leadership are eager to assist our growing student leaders, their advisor/mentors, the students served by the student-lead organizations, as well as the greater College community. We therefore need a variety information in order to best serve these populations and the College as a whole.
Lastly, it is our goal to do our very best to ensure the success of any group of students who wish to devote themselves to co-curricular activities. In certifying to be on officially recognized student club or organization, these students gain specialized access to highly trained staff and numerous resources such as space on campus, publicity opportunities, web space, leadership training and development, and various funding opportunities.
Please take the time to read through and assess the contents of the certification packet.
Women’s Leadership staff members are always available to answer your questions and to guide you through this process. Congratulations in taking the first step to becoming a student leader on campus!
Please Note: Departmental organizations (those formed by faculty or staff members in order to provide co-curricular support to a department and with no student leadership,) need not certify in this manner. We do ask such organizations to make us aware of their existence so we may aid with your publicity and make students aware of your presence. You will be listed on our website as a “Departmental Organization”.
Please email jrodriguez@msmc.la.edu if you represent such a club or organization.
