Location: Doheny Camput (Downtown LA)
Part time position that will run from January 2013 through June 2013 to assist with enrollment efforts. The individual selected will be responsible for maintaining a visible presence at select community colleges 5 days a week/6 hours per day. Potential applicants should feel comfortable speaking in front of small or large groups, work well independently, and be a self starter.
The individual selected will provide prospective transfer students interested in transferring with information about Mount St. Mary’s College to generate interest with hope of generating applications. In addition, this individual will support the Admission Staff by providing visibility in select community colleges within a given geographical area.
Contact and meet prospective MSMC students by visiting approximately 6-10 community colleges and attending 1-5 transfer/college fairs throughout Southern California
Inform and update college counselors at community colleges about MSMC so they can inform their students about the College and generate applications for admission.
Interact in a professional manner with a variety of professionals outside of the College who have an impact/influence on prospective students. This would include working as a liaison for MSMC and the community colleges (staff, student groups, faculty, etc.).
Work closely with Admission Staff to assist prospective students and applicants throughout the admissions process via telephone and email contacts, letters and personal meetings (approximately one day a week, eight months each year).
Working knowledge of the structure of college admissions and of public and private high school counseling; analysis of transcripts and standardized admission tests; and the role of an Associate of Arts degree versus a Bachelor’s degree. Understanding of the transfer process in California (IGETC) and financial aid policies/procedures is helpful.
Willing and able to travel extensively. Effectively manage multiple projects and follow through to completion. Comfortably speak to groups and individuals from many different backgrounds and quickly build rapport. Work well alone and in a team. High energy level. Patience and flexibility. Creative problem solver. Analytical and able to make sound judgments/decisions. Must enjoy having a lot of contact with people. Good sense of direction and/or ability to read maps is very helpful.
Excellent organization and prioritization, customer service, oral/written communication, interpersonal, public relations and presentation skills.
Bachelor of Arts degree, preferably from a small liberal arts institution. Must possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license.
Experience working in a high school or an institution of higher learning (e.g. in counseling, admissions or as a teacher/faculty member), public relations, recruiting, sales or other related field is desired.
