Chief Information Officer - Office of Information Technology

Location: Chalon Campus (West Los Angeles) and Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles)

Mount St. Mary’s College, Los Angeles is creating a new position for a Chief Information Officer. The CIO will coordinate the vision and planning for all institutional technology on the campus as laid out in the 2103 2018 Strategic Plan. As the Chief Information Officer of the College, this individual will report to the Vice President for Informational Support Services

This position works closely with faculty, staff and administration to determine the best implementation of information technology to support MSMC’s overall vision and strategic plan. The position will oversee the Information Support Services employees of MSMC, outsourced Ellucian and other vendor employees, employees engaged in the development of online programming, hybrid programs, technology policies, and training for academic and operating systems, administrative computer services, network communications, and management information services to accomplish Mount St. Mary’s goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of the IT department and vendor work, including hiring, orientation, and training of new IT employees.
  • Evaluate overall operations of Institutional Technology functions, perform appropriate cost benefit analysis, and recommend enhancements that maximize effectiveness and minimize costs.
  • Work with Academic and Administrative Technology Committees to ensure understanding of and investment required to meet vision and planning objectives.
  • Prepare and revise yearly the three to five year technology plan including hardware/software requirements and budgets.
  • Maintain knowledge of current educational and business applications to ensure appropriate planning for technology on the campus. Consistently evaluate all systems, staffing and training on various applications.
  • Oversee design of network architecture, defining standards and protocols for data exchange and communications.
  • Oversee the development, design, and implementation of new applications and changes to existing computer systems and software packages ensuring integration while maintaining data integrity. Advise senior management on strategic systems conversions and integrations in support of college goals and objectives.
  • Prepare college objectives and annual/capital budgets to facilitate the orderly and efficient capture, storage, processing, and dissemination of information.
  • Develop, establish and review operating policies and procedures ensuring conformance of systems with the ongoing life of the campus.
  • Work collaboratively with the academic leadership to introduce technological instructional innovations and ensure support for on-line, hybrid, and web- enhanced courses.
  • Oversee the delivery of professional development in technological expertise for both faculty and staff.
  • Work collaboratively with all administrative/operational divisions to oversee the implementation and training on appropriate software applications.
  • Ensure the security of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment.
  • Responsible for the development and review of all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans.
  • Member of various administrative and academic committees. Actively participate in committee work.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Master’s degree in Computer Science, Management of Technology or related field with 7 years’ experience in management of IT teams. Strong project management and budget formulation skills required in addition to superior communication skills. Demonstrated success in constructing and executing comprehensive, strategic and operational plans and benchmarks well informed by best practices. Experience managing organizations utilizing Extreme Networks and Ellucian products (Datatel), proficiency in online education, and familiarity with the needs of a film department, computer graphics/simulation, including Nursing simulation labs. Demonstrated success in building, leading, training, and nurturing winning staff within a sophisticated technical operation. High level of aspiration and initiative. Must be a self-starter, team player, and possess the ability to work collaboratively at all levels of our diverse Academy community. Must contribute to a positive work environment in which mutual respect and support are guiding principles. Must be results-oriented with a willingness to occasionally work nights and weekends to achieve goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

Doctorate degree in Management of Technology, Computer Science, or a related field with 10 years’ experience desired. Master’s Required. Experience with, or comprehensive understanding of, information commons approach to library research and academic technology tools.
