Assistant Director/Associate Director, Prospect Research and Management - Institutional Advancement

Location: Doheny Campus (Downtown LA)

The Assistant Director/Associate Director (level depending upon experience) of Prospect Management and Research (ADPM) will be a self-starter with the ability to provide research and strategy to fundraisers and senior staff to maximize relationships with current and prospective donors to meet fundraising goals for the College.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, the ADPM is responsible for meeting with fundraisers to support fundraising efforts through the initiation, promotion, coordination and administration of an effective prospect management program and for providing thorough research and donor strategy for current and prospective donors. The ADPM will drive donor activity and movement for the President, VP, AVP and fundraisers.

Duties and Responsibilities:      

1.    Conduct research on major and principal donors and prospects; supervise initial donor screenings by
       administrative staff.

2.    Evaluate portfolios for 5-8 fundraisers (100-120 donors and prospects in each portfolio) and create/adjust
       portfolios to achieve annual goals.

3.    Coordinate with Director of Advancement Services periodic wealth screen of entire database.

4.    Lead bi-weekly donor and prospect strategy meetings with a team of fundraisers and senior staff.

5.    Manage the donor pipeline to ensure fundraising goals are met.

6.    Work with individual fundraisers to set goals and strategies for each donor; monitor movement and
       progress and ensure fundraisers’ proper recording of donor activity and movement along the continuum.

7.    Coordinate the annual solicitation schedule and development of division-wide goals.

8.    Work directly with Director of Special Events and Public Programs, as well as Alumnae Relations and
       fundraisers, to maximize donor cultivation and stewardship potential at each College event; work with
       Director of Public Relations to maximize donor cultivation and stewardship with all College communica-
       tions and publications.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Understanding of sophisticated fundraising techniques, donor relations and trends. Strong working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database system, Wealth Engine, Research Point, I Modules, Microsoft Word and Excel software applications.

Ability to work effectively with a diverse team in a fast paced setting. Effectively set priorities, analyze and creatively solve problems. Exercise sound judgment and decision making. Detail-oriented, flexible and proactive.  Ability to keep abreast of updates and changes within the field. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks to meet established deadlines.

Demonstrated skill in facilitating prospect portfolio discussions; strong ability to provide strategic thinking.  Ability to promote prospect strategy sessions among fundraisers. Ability to articulate the mission and values of a Mount St. Mary’s College education and forge strong working relationships with others. Strong capacity for engaging confidence and trust among colleagues, prospects and donors.

·         Assistant Director
          Three years minimum of prospect management experience, including working directly with frontline
          fundraisers. Experience with higher education fundraising a plus.

·         Associate Director
          Five years+ minimum of prospect management experience, including working directly with frontline
          fundraisers. Minimum five years of experience with higher education fundraising.          

Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
