College Celebrates First Graduating Class of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Subtitle: Three Students Earn Degrees During October Ceremony Date: 10/08/2005
Mount St. Mary’s College (MSMC), Los Angeles, proudly announces the first graduates of its Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree Program, the first-ever doctoral-level program offered at the College. In a graduation ceremony Saturday, Oct. 8, three students celebrated completing the program on the south lawn of the Doheny Mansion at the College’s Doheny Campus near downtown Los Angeles.
The graduates are: Christina Cambra of Redondo Beach, Calif.; Kathleen Delgado of Los Angeles; and Jenna Rosenberg of Middleton, Penn. Cambra and Delgado are currently interviewing for jobs, and Rosenberg is returning to Pennsylvania to work for Joyner Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy.
“The goal of the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is to graduate competent, compassionate, reflective generalist physical therapists prepared to practice in the current and future healthcare environment,” said Debbie Lowe, chair of the Physical Therapy Department. “The Program develops practitioners who possess a thorough understanding of the human being: structurally, functionally, psychosocially, and spiritually.”
In 1981, the College established its Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy program, which was converted to a Master’s of Physical Therapy program in 1991. In 2001, the College developed the Doctor of Physical Therapy program in response to a need for more extensive preparation in physical therapy. The first students enrolled in the doctoral program in 2002, and the College currently counts 60 students in the program.
