Before working at the Mount, Sarah Scopio spent several years teaching composition at Los Angeles-area universities and working as a freelance author and copy editor. She previously worked as a magazine editor in New York City and as a public affairs writer for Dartmouth College. A California native, Scopio earned her bachelor's degree in English from Biola University and her master's in English (with an emphasis in rhetoric and composition) from California State University Long Beach.

Joanna Banks joined the staff of Mount St. Mary's College in 2002. Previously, she served as a metro reporter for newspapers in New York and California, including Los Angeles Times community newspapers and The Press-Enterprise of Inland Southern California, where she covered education, demographics, and social issues. Banks earned her bachelor's degree in communication studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and her master's degree in print journalism from Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications.
