Biography

Dr. Tochluk joined the Mount St. Mary’s team in Fall, 2005 after teaching elementary and middle school in Inglewood, California for seven years. While there, she specialized in differentiating instruction for English language learners. Dr. Tochluk also has extensive experience in cross-race dialogue and youth mentoring.

Dr. Tochluk's newly published book, Witnessing Whiteness: First Steps Toward an Antiracist Practice and Culture, offers a path toward improved cross-race relationships and an exploration of how being white can affect a person's daily life. Written in an easy-to-read style, the book helps people understand race issues and develop a plan of action to support movements for change. The book features stories from well-known cultural workers, such as Luis Rodriguez, Lorraine Cole, Michael Meade, Lee Mun Wah, and Jennifer Obidah. Dr. Tochluk is also a member of AWARE-LA, a group of white individuals working to create an alliance of white anti-racists. Dr. Tochluk received her B.A. in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Loyola Marymount University, and Ph.D. in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. She also holds a California Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential.
