Mount St. Mary's College:
Founded in 1925 by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, Mount St. Mary's College offers associate, baccalaureate, and graduate degree programs in the liberal arts and sciences and selected professions. As a Catholic college primarily for women, the college provides a superior education with an emphasis on building leadership skills and fostering a spirit to serve others. Housed on two beautiful campuses in the heart of Los Angeles, the college serves a student population of approximately 2,300 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students. The college is a Hispanic serving institution and the students' backgrounds reflect the diversity in Los Angeles. We respond to the educational needs of the Los Angeles community through innovative academic programs such as the Alternative Access two-year program for first generation college students and the Weekend College program for working adults.

Mount St. Mary's College is primarily a teaching institution, dedicated to the mission of developing leaders with a responsibility to the common good. The faculty are selected for their commitment to teaching excellence and continual improvement of their practice through research in their discipline and professional development in teaching pedagogy. The college strategic plan calls for a systematic program of faculty development to support student learning and institutional assessment of student learning outcomes. Numerous faculty development initiatives have resulted in the creation of Faculty Learning Communities to support faculty in their development as teachers.

Education Department:
Since 1925 the Mount St. Mary's College Education Department has prepared caring, skilled teachers for urban schools and diverse populations. The education faculty are committed to social justice, inclusiveness, and leadership and welcome the challenge and enrichment that a diverse population offers. Located on the Doheny campus in the heart of the urban community of central Los Angeles, the department maintains strong links to local schools. One example of the department's leadership in diversity education is the Center for Cultural Fluency, a library of multicultural resources for K-12 classrooms that supports teacher and student exploration of Los Angeles communities.

Mount St. Mary's College prepares undergraduate and graduate students for early childhood, elementary, secondary and special education teaching and school leadership positions. Teacher preparation programs in conjunction with a baccalaureate degree in an academic major are offered at the undergraduate level; teacher preparation programs in conjunction with a master's degree are offered at the graduate level. In Fall 2006, a new master's program in Instructional Leadership was initiated for experienced teachers who want advanced preparation for leadership positions in curriculum design and professional development.

The Education Department serves traditional students and adult learners in a variety of instructional formats. The student population reflects the diverse community of Los Angeles. Many of the undergraduates are first-generation, multilingual college students. As a college with a significant number of students from under-represented populations, education students are invited to apply for the prestigious Rockefeller Brothers Fellowship for Persons of Color Entering the Teaching Profession. Since this program's inception in 1992, Mount St. Mary's College has had more scholarship fellows than any other participating institution. Graduates of the Mount Education Department credential and degree programs often return to their home communities in Los Angeles to teach and assume positions of leadership.

Mount St. Mary's College is an EEO/AA employer. Individuals of color are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicant must be able to provide proof of legal ability to work in the United States. The College will not undertake to assist applicants with any visa matter.
