Mount St. Mary's College Graduate Scholarship and Tuition Reduction Programs

Graduate Division

Mount St. Mary's College has a limited number of graduate scholarships and a generous tuition reduction program for those who are eligible.  The criteria and requirements for these scholarships and the tuition reduction program are listed below:

Women's University Club Scholarship (amount varies from year to year)

Requirements:

  • MSMC Graduate Student
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Demonstrated leadership characteristics

 M.S. Education and Teacher Credentialing Programs

Shane G. Alexson Memorial Scholarship for students in the M.S. Education Program.  Contact the Chair of the Education Department for more information at (213) 477-2620.

Hearst Endowed Scholarship Fund for Teachers (est. in 2005) for undergrads or grad students in education.  Students are jointly selected by the Chair of the Education Deptartment and the Director of Financing.  Applicants should contact the Chair of the Education Department for more information at (213) 477-2620. 

Requirements:

  • Good academic standing
  • Demonstrated significant financial need
  • Commitment to working in public schools

Larry and Eileen Crain Endowed Scholarship Fund

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in MSMC's Teacher Credential Program
  • An employee of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles
  • Eligible students apply each year and are selected by the faculty of the Teacher Credential Program

The Dr. and Mrs. F. Roman Young Endowed Scholarship

Requirements:

  • Enrolled in the Master of Science Program in Instructional Leadership
  • Three years experience as a public school teacher or administrator
  • Demonstrates financial need
  • Commitment to teacher leadership in urban Los Angeles schools

Center for Cultural Fluency Graduate Internship  (3 units of Tuition Waived Per Semester).

Helen Reiman Wood Endowed Scholarship Fund

Requirements:

Must be a graduate student in special education, preferably one who is interested in helping the developmentally disabled.

M. S. Nursing Program

Advanced Education Nursing Traineeships from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).   Available only periodically.  Applicants should contact the Chair of the MSN program at (213) 477-2980.

          A.D.N. to M.S.N. Program Scholarship (For R.N.s with A.D.N. degrees).  

  • The A.D.N. to M.S.N. Program Scholarship is designed to  assist licensed R.N.s in returning to college to complete a Master’s Degree in Nursing in one of four specialized areas: 1) nurse educator 2) clinical nurse specialist 3) community health or 4) leadership and administration. This program is designed to meet the growing need for master’s trained nurses in California.
  • All A.D.N. to M.S.N. Program applicants who apply by May 1st will be given priority in consideration for a $5,000 Scholarship. These scholarships are based on merit. All scholarships are awarded for the Fall Semester and are one time only awards. Students must meet all Admissions and Financial Aid requirements in order to be eligible for the Scholarship. 
  • Applicants must meet the following requirements: 1.)  An Associate degree in Nursing or its equivalent in nursing from a regionally accredited and BRN approved institution.  2.)  A current and clear license issued by the BRN in the state of California and 3.  GPA:   3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale in the last 60 semester units of course work.

Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program

TA Program - A limited number of fellowships are available to doctral students in the DPT program.  Contact the Director of the DPT Program at (213) 477-2601.

The Belief Foundation Leadership in Physical Therapy Endowed Scholarship Fund-Student must be enrolled in the second year of the program, student must have a 3.25 GPA, student must demonstrate leadership in the DPT Program, College, American Physical Therapy Association or Community, students must submit a portfolio detailing their leadership experience including an essay on their perspective on Leadership.  This is a merit based Scholarship.  Contact the Director of the DPT Program at (213) 477-2601.

Ida Mave and Enoch Carlson Endowed Physical Therapy Scholarship (a minimum of $1,000 will be awarded from this scholarship per year). Contact the Director of the DPT Program at (213) 477-2601.

Requirements:

  • Student must be enrolled in the third year of the DPT Program
  • Student must enter the college with at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA
  • Student must maintain at least a 2.75 GPA
  • This merit based scholarship is for the "over and above" student and is not need based
  • Student must submit a brief essay on an ethical issue in order to be qualified (will be designed by DPT staff, who will also collect applications)
  • Student must apply by October 1 for monies to be awarded in the Spring for the purpose of funding for summer clinicals

 

M.A. Religious Studies Program

 

Limited Scholarships available on a per course basis only.  Contact the Director of the Graduate Religious Studies Department at (213) 477-2642.

Robert I. and Catherine M. Ryan Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is for a Religious Studies graduate student.  Need based.  The Director of the Graduate Religious Studies Program works with Student Financing to determine the recipient of the award.  Contact the Chair of the Graduate Religious Studies Department at (213) 477-2740.

Monsignor James O'Gorman Endowed Scholarship Fund

Requirements:

  • For in-service training development of lay teachers for religious instruction anywhere in Southern California
  • Must be taking at least 15 units and hold a 3.5 GPA

Tuition Reduction Program for MSMC Graduate Students

A tuition discount of an amount specified by the College each year (2007-2008 is 35%) may be awarded to those graduate students who fulfill one of the following requirements:

  • Members of religious communities, diocesen priests and deacons in good standing, upon verification from appropriate religious authority.
  • Laypersons enrolled in graduate programs who are full-time (40 hours per week) employees of a Roman Catholic diocese or parish as listed in the current diocesan directory or in "The Official Catholic Directory"; (P.J. Kennedy & Sons, pub.), upon written verification of employment.  This employment must be the major source of income for the student.
  • Laypersons who are chaplains in hospitals or prisons and who are full-time employees of a Roman Catholic diocese or a Roman Catholic institution (according to "The Official Catholic Directory"); written verification of employment required.

The student must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average in order to qualify for the wavier.  Workshops and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are not included in this waiver.

It is the student's responsibility to complete and file a Tuition Discount Application form with the Business Office prior to registration.  At each subsequent registration period, the student may verify employment by submitting a copy of their most current paycheck stub to the Business Office.  Contact the Office of Graduate Admission for further information at (213) 477-2800.
