Physical Sciences & MathematicsThe Department of Physical Sciences and Mathematics offers four bachelor's degree programs. Each focus of study is designed with the students' professional needs in mind. The B.S. in Biochemistry, an interdisciplinary study of chemistry, biology, mathematic and physics, provides excellent preparation for all graduate work/research in biochemistry and the biomolecular sciences. It is an excellent background for students preparing to enter the medical, dental, pharmacy or other professional schools. The B.S. in Chemistry offers a comprehensive view of the principle of how the physical world works. It is an excellent preparation for graduate studies in chemistry or biochemistry, medical studies and other health science areas, as well as careers in pharmaceutical industries. The B.A. in Chemistry is designed for those interested in secondary science teaching, chemical industry and technology, and other broadly-based careers requiring a science background, including scientific writing and the food industries. The B.A. in Mathematics offers students an opportunity to study mathematics as part of a liberal education. This major serves as excellent preparation for work in fields such as computer science, statistics, secondary teaching, business, or graduate study in many areas. The department also offers the Minor in Chemistry, Minor in Mathematics, and Minor in Computer Programming. The hallmark of the department is the personalized attention to its students, extensive learning support from instructors and peers, and outstanding teachers who are dedicated to improving the learning of our students. Research at the undergraduate level in the sciences offers students authentic scientific experiences and interaction with renowned scientists. All of these majors can be coupled through minors to provide an excellent preparation for entrance into a wide range of professional schools, including medicine, dentistry, optometry, and pharmacy. |
