Degree & Certificate Programs
The Department of Music at Mount St. Mary's College offers several courses of study to suit individual needs. The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music offers an in-depth, four-year learning experience. The Music Ministry Certificate and Music Minor allow for the study of music while pursuing either a career in parish ministry or studies in another department at the College.
The Bachelor of Arts Degree The B.A. degree offers preparation in music for students desiring a broad knowledge of music for teaching, research, performance, personal enjoyment, cultural development, or advanced degrees. The curriculum includes two-thirds of the studies in the liberal arts, and one-third in music. In the bachelor of arts program, students select an emphasis on performance or music history.
The Music Ministry Certificate Program The Department of Music offers a Music Ministry Certificate program for students wishing to pursue music leadership roles in parishes. Essentially a two-year program, the certificate may serve as the basis for a baccalaureate degree.
The Music Minor The Music minor is available to interested students who complete at least 21 units of study. Students interested in music as an elective may participate in various offerings of the Department of Music, including performance classes, individual instruction, or in the study of music as an art.
