The History Department

The student who majors in history examines and analyzes the heritage of the recorded past in an effort to better understand and evaluate events and developments of the present. Emphasis is placed on American, European, and non-Western civilizations.

Other options are offered in the closely-allied area majors offered in Social Science with emphasis in history, political science, and public administration.  Majoring in history is excellent preparation for law school, graduate school, and for careers in the public and private sector that require skills in critical thinking, evaluation of evidence or arguments, as well as advanced writing and analytical training.
