Announcements for the College Community

In the event of a reported, serious security concern, the President's Office, the Student Affairs Office,  the Department of Campus Security or the Residence Life Office will issue timely reports warning the college community of potential risks and the proper reporting procedure for security concerns via electronic mail, posted notices, Chalon Student news, and this page on the Campus Security web site.

New Mass Notification System

The Department of Campus Security and the Office of Information Technology are happy to announce that the Mount now has a mass notification system in place to inform the college community of any campus emergency or disaster which could impact college business. This notification system is a voluntary program which will allow those that sign up for the service to be notified of emergencies via email and/or text message to your personal cell phone and college email address. There is no cost to sign up for the service and normal text messaging rates will be applied if and when the notification system is activated. Signing up for the service is easy. Simply go to www.msmc.la.edu/ealert to create your account. You will be asked to provide your cell phone number and service provider. Once you have created your account, you will be redirected to another page where you can add your college issued email address. We strongly advise you to add both your cell phone number and email to your personal notification account to ensure timely notification of problems on or off campus. If you ever receive a message on your cell phone or email from this system, please follow the instructions carefully. Periodically during a crisis, updates will be sent out to keep you fully informed. Once the event or crisis has concluded, an all clear message will be sent letting you know that it is now safe to resume normal operations. We encourage all current students, faculty and staff to participate by visiting www.msmc.la.edu/ealert and signing up today for the new notification system here at Mount St. Mary’s.

Welcome to  the Fall 2008 Semester

The Department of Campus Security would like to welcome all new and returning students back to the Mount. We would also like to take this time to reintroduce a service that Campus Security has to offer you.

As you walk around campus, you will notice new "Blue Light Emergency Phones". These phones are intended for helping you in the event of an emergency. These phones have two features for you to use.

For Emergencies:

Simply push the RED button to connect directly with Campus Security. Be sure to state your location and type of emergency you are reporting. Please note that the blue light at the top of the phone will flash once you push the button. Please remain at that location until a Campus Security Officer arrives to assist you.

For "On-Campus Only" Calls:

Push the BLACK button to get a dial tone and then you may ONLY dial the 4 digit campus extension. No outside calls are able to be made. Please be aware that this phone operates on a speaker system and your calls may be overheard by others around you.

If you would like an escort from one of these locations, please dial Campus Security at 4321 for Chalon escorts or 2502 for Doheny escorts. Escorts are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You can expect a Campus Security Officer to arrive at your location within 5 minutes barring any incidents that we may already be responding to.

Please check back to this site regularly for updates, security tips and new services.

Again, welcome back and have a safe and secure Fall Semester.

Traffic Camera at Chalon

Mount St. Mary's College has installed a traffic camera at the entrance to the Chalon Campus. The purpose of this camera is to monitor and record all vehicles exiting the campus that violate either the "No Left Turn" sign or fail to come to a full and complete stop at the base of the hill. All vehicles that are seen violating one of these rules of the road will have their vehicle information documented and turned into Student Affairs for follow up. Please remember that you must follow all rules of the road on and off campus.  Please click here, Neighborhood Traffic Courtesy, for more driving tips and information.
