Higher Education Opportunity Act Report

As part of our ongoing mission to serve the community with an exceptional educational experience, Mount St. Mary’s College believes inclusiveness is key to creating a superior learning environment.

One way we work to ensure this is by honoring the spirit and letter of the 2008 Higher Education Opportunity Act. Passed by Congress, this legislation is a reauthorization of the 1965 Higher Education Act, which helped create greater opportunity for students of all backgrounds to attend college.

The 1998 legislation incorporated a new element into its mandate: that participating colleges work to include students with intellectual disabilities, and to ensure their eligibility for Federal student financial aid programs like Pell Grants, Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, and Federal Work-Study Programs.
