Mount St. Mary’s newest Study Away opportunity offers hands-on lessons in the history, art and culture of the Renaissance. “The Splendors of Italy” travel study course will take place Dec. 8-16, 2014, and is open to students, alums and other friends of the College.
Offered through the Mount’s Humanities program and Weekend College, the Italy trip includes visits to Rome, Florence and Assisi. Planned excursions and guided city tours will offer experiential lessons, while the itinerary also allows plenty of time for personal exploration.
Highlights of the trip include visits to Rome’s breathtaking mixture of ruins and monuments; Florence’s artistic and cultural treasures within the birthplace of the Renaissance; the Umbrian hometown of St. Francis of Assisi; as well as St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and more in Vatican City.
Jane Crawford, PhD, will lead the journey to Italy. She is a longtime instructor of history and political science at the Mount, with expertise in the Roman era, medieval history, and the Renaissance and Reformation.
Trip price includes airfare from Los Angeles, point-to-point transportation between cities while in Italy, all hotels, all breakfasts, four dinners and all guided tours. For details, including a complete itinerary and cost breakdown, visit the Humanities program’s Travel Study page.
