Emergency Procedures

What to do in case of:

• Fire
• Earthquakes
• Medical Emergency
• Bomb Threat
• Major Hazards/Gas Leaks
• Violent or Criminal Behavior
• Incident/Theft Report Forms

Fire

If you discover fire or smoke…

• Remove anyone from immediate danger.
• Close doors to confine fire or smoke.
• Activate manual fire alarm pull station, if there is one in close proximity.
• Call 911(8-911 from school phones), and Security (Chalon 310-954-4123 or Doheny 213-477-2502). Give your name and location of fire.
• In the Chalon campus, evacuate to the Circle area and in the Doheny campus, evacuate to the lawn area on the side of Building #17 (Child Development Center) or the nearest safe open area by using the nearest or safest exit. (Do not use elevators.)
• Follow directions of Building and Floor Monitors.

If you hear, see or notify alarm…

• Evacuate either the Circle area or the lawn area on the side of Building #17 (Child Development Center) by using the nearest or safest exit. (Do not use elevators.)
• Follow directions of Building and Floor Monitors.

Earthquakes

In the event of an earthquake…

• Duck and Cover—take cover under desk or table.
• Stay clear of windows and objects that may fall.
• Do not run outside.
• If outdoors, stay in an open place.
• After the shaking stops, evacuate (if directed), to the Circle area in Chalon or to the lawn area on the side of Building #17 (Child Development Center) in Doheny by using the nearest and safest exit.  (Do not use elevators.)

Medical Emergency

In case of a medical emergency…

• Call 911, Health Services 213-477-2685 or 310-954-4110 (during business hours) and Security (Chalon 310-954-4123, Doheny 213-477-2502). Give your name and the location of the victim.
• Provide medical care (CPR/First Aid) if qualified.
• Remain with victim until help arrives. Provide information about the incident.
• Contact Residence Life (Chalon 310-954-4325 or Doheny 213-477-2661) or Student Affairs (310-954-4130, 213-477-2571).

Bomb Threat

If there is a bomb threat…

• Try to keep the caller on the line and ask questions (Where is the bomb? When is it set to go off? What kind of bomb is it?)
• Write down what is said. Note background noises.
• Report threat immediately. Call 911.
• Contact Security (310-954-4123 or 213-477-2502), Residence Life (310-954-4325 or 213-477-2661) and Student Affairs (310-954-4130 or 213-477-2571).

Major Hazards/Gas Leaks

In the event of hazardous material spills or gas leaks…

• Evacuate and close off the area.  Avoid any contact with chemicals.
• Call 911. Request the Hazmat team for hazardous spills.
• Contact Facilities Management (310-954-4340).
• Direct exposed victims to remove contaminated clothing before leaving area, if possible.
• Contact Security (310-954-4123 or 213-477-2502) to prevent entry into the area or fire hazards.
• Contact Residence Life (310-954-4325 or 213-477-2661) and Student Affairs (310-954-4130 or 213-477-2571).

Violent or Criminal Behavior

If you are witness to violent or criminal behavior…

• Call 911 and Campus Security (310-954-4123 or 213-477-2502) if you observe any violent or potentially violent criminal act. Contact Security immediately if you observe a suspicious person on campus.
• Contact Residence Life (310-954-4325 or 213-477-2661) or Student Affairs (310-954-4130 or 213-477-2571).

If you hear gunfire or explosives, take cover using all available concealment.

These forms are not intended for the reporting of emergency situations that require immediate attention. For an emergency, please call Campus Security or 911.

Instructions for Submitting the Reports:

Simply download the incident and theft reports; print and fill out the hard copy(ies); and mail to the Office of Student Affairs at the address shown below:
