Make the Cut
description of photo
Mount student makes the cut to help women with cancer.

On March 30, 2011 Mount St. Mary’s was honored to host the Make the Cut event. This event gives students the chance to donate their hair to Beautiful Lengths which helps women with cancer, or to Locks of Love which help children with any disease in which they loose their hair. This is just another opportunity the Mount students have to give back.

Marinello School of Beauty participated in aiding to cut and style the hair of those who choose to donate. The hair that is collected is used to make free wigs to the patients in need. This year 34 people participated by cutting their hair and in total we were able to collect 42 ponytails from earlier donations.

It is very important to donate hair because it takes anywhere from 6-8 ponytails to make one wig. That is why it is encouraged for more people to volunteer because one ponytail is one step closer for someone to receive a free wig that will surely make them happy.

“A woman's hair is an incredible instrument of communication and self-expression.  It defines her image in a way that almost no other physical attribute can”. - Pantene Beautiful Lengths

You can help women with their fight against cancer with just a simple donation to give them the confidence they need to keep on fighting. If you were not able to donate this year, start growing your hair now for next year. Keep your hair healthy from chemical treatments and help change someone’s life with your own hair and receive a free haircut and styling.
