The Triduum (Latin for "Three Days") begins on Holy Thursday night and continues through Good Friday, Holy Saturday, until sundown on Easter Sunday.
These are our High Holy Days, the most important time of the Church year. Catholics are asked to keep all of Holy Week, but especially Holy Thursday night through Holy Saturday night, free of all but the most essential tasks, from noise, entertainment, from all of our normal distractions.
The Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper is celebrated once in each parish, in the evening.
The Good Friday Liturgy of the Lord's Passion takes place once in each parish, beginning anywhere from noon to 3 pm.
Holy Saturday's Great Easter Vigil, the most central and powerful Church service of the year, is celebrated after darkness falls, beginning with the lighting of the new Paschal Candle from a bonfire, and including the baptism of new Christians.
If you are a Christian, whether you are a regular churchgoer or not, please consider setting these days aside. All of us are needed to celebrate the great Christian feast. All of us are needed in our faith communities for these greatest of days.
Please consider checking your parish calendar and making plans to attend these liturgies - especially the great Saturday night Vigil.
