The essential privilege of the Mount St. Mary's College Art Department is to create a dynamic learning environment that will enable students who work hard and make a thoughtful and concerted effort, to graduate as young professionals, ready and able to confront the challenges of professional life to come. Preparing students for such a worthy and worldly goal is accomplished through fundamental skill building, assigned problem solving, constructive discussion, directed self assignments with an expectation of creative growth.
The department is the beneficiary of a talented faculty, proximity to an amazing array of opportunities in Los Angeles to see culture as experience and to participate in culture as enterprise. The department supports students by providing all needed materials as well as providing students with an abundance of opportunities to interact with the professional world of art and design, and providing the well recognized José Drudis-Biada Gallery with which students interact.
