Admission

Application Process

  • Complete the application form online (or included the brochure)
  • Return the completed form, including the names of all high schools and colleges attended, to the Weekend College Office accompanied by the $20 application fee.
  • Request Official transcripts from every college or university previously attended. To ensure that these transcripts are mailed directly from your school to the Weekend College office, you should use the Transcript Request forms included in the brochure.
  • If you have not completed at least 24 units (approximately one year) of college study, request an official transcript from the high school you graduated from or an official copy of your GED.
  • In addition, if you think you will need financial aid for your initial semester, you should complete and submit a FAFSA and contact the Office of Student Financing at least two months prior to your projected starting date.

Personal Interview

Without incurring any obligation, you may request an appointment to consider the possibilities of joining the Weekend College. If you have student copies of college transcripts, we can make you an unofficial and preliminary assessment of transfer credit to give you an estimate of the time it might take you to complete your bachelor's degree within the Weekend College format. [Contact our Outreach Coordinator].

Acceptance Into the Program

Every application will be acknowledged by mail within 48 hours of its receipt on campus. You will then be advised that as soon as all official transcripts have been received , your file will be forwarded to the Committee on Admissions. Committee meetings are held weekly to expedite the process and avoid long interim periods between inquiry and enrollment. In selecting candidates for the program, Mount St. Mary's College is principally interested in adults who are committed to completing their degree, who have the requisite time-management skills and motivation to function successfully within the unusual weekend format, and who are comfortable with the level of maturity that prevails among the student body at the Weekend College. Students are admitted three times per year - for the fall, spring or summer.

Orientation & Registration

On a Saturday prior to the first semester of enrollment in the Weekend College, you will attend a half-day session of Orientation. At this time details of classroom locations, financial aid, and business office transactions are explained and final questions answered. You then purchase books, collect a syllabus for each course in which you are registered, and find out about any advance assignments which faculty members will expect to see completed at the first class meeting. These assignments usually amount to some preliminary reading and sometimes a short paper or autobiographical sketch to assist the instructor in assessing your own and your group's preparation for the course. These assignments help to maximize the teaching/learning time on the first weekend, launching students immediately into full participation in the academic enterprise.
