Starting Fall 2009, Mount St. Mary’s Weekend College will be offering film production workshops at the college’s new state-of-the-art film production studio and editing lab at the Chalon Campus in Brentwood.
Pam Haldeman, Ph.D., who heads up the Film & Social Justice Program at MSMC, and Weekend College Dean Merrill Rodin, are now offering these weekend film workshops based on the continuing demand for skilled media experts in the industry using the latest technologies. In addition, filmmaking expertise provides a significant value-added dimension to any professional’s resume.
A distinctive feature of the film workshops is that they are small (20 student maximum) and offer intensive hands-on training with close support and interaction with instructors. In one weekend basic filmmaking skills can be mastered.
Students who complete at least six Weekend Film Workshops will be eligible for an arranged internship in the industry.
The courses that will be offered for Spring 2010 are: SOC/FLM 199: Working in Hollywood: There Really is No Business Like Show Business (February 6-7) , SOC/FLM 199: Behind the Scenes of Movie Magic: Marketing, Media and More (March 20-21) and SOC/FLM 199: What's so Funny: A Survey of American Comedy (April 24-25). These are the first of a new, ongoing filmmaking workshop series that will be conducted throughout the academic year and during summers at the college.
These workshops are offered to the public on a no-credit basis at a reduced tuition fee of $350 per weekend.
